Coat of arms of the Chechen Republic was adopted on June 22, 2004. Along the border of the COA a national ornamental pattern is placed. A medieval Chechen tower on the left and an oil derrick on the right are the symbols of historical continuity. * * * In 1991 the president Dzhokhar Dudaev signed the decree about the creation of symbols of independent Ichkeria. The main Chechen emblem was a wolf. In 1995 the national symbols were changed: an oil derrick and a gear wheel were placed on the new coat of arms. In August, 1996 the separatists restored Dudaev's symbols. |
