Blazons of Towns in Moscow Oblast

Part 1

Two sets of coats of arms were created for the cities of the Moscow province at various times. The first was designed by the Master Herald Alexander Andreevich Volkov in 1781. In 1883, all city coats of arms of the Moscow province were redesigned in accordance with the rules developed by the Master Herald Bernhard Karl von Köhne on the orders of Nicholas I and approved by the emperor in 1857. From that moment, all newly created coats of arms were created according to these rules, and some existing coats of arms were also corrected. But the redesign of all coats of arms was carried out only in the Moscow province. The rules developed by Köhne provided for bringing Russian coats of arms into line with the rules of Western European heraldry.
