Blazons of Towns in Moscow Oblast |
Two sets of coats of arms were created for the cities of the Moscow province at various times. The first was designed by the Master Herald Alexander Andreevich Volkov in 1781. In 1883, all city coats of arms of the Moscow province were redesigned in accordance with the rules developed by the Master Herald Bernhard Karl von Köhne on the orders of Nicholas I and approved by the emperor in 1857. From that moment, all newly created coats of arms were created according to these rules, and some existing coats of arms were also corrected. But the redesign of all coats of arms was carried out only in the Moscow province. The rules developed by Köhne provided for bringing Russian coats of arms into line with the rules of Western European heraldry. * * * The coat of arms of the Moscow Oblast was approved on July 15, 2005. In 2006, the image of St. George was changed (a new version of the law on the coat of arms of the Moscow Oblast was adopted on March 10, 2006, but the description of the coat of arms was not changed). Description of the coat of arms: "On a red field, Saint George the Victory-bearer in silver armor (plates, helmet, and boots) and a blue cloak, sitting in a purple saddle with gold fringe on a silver prancing horse, striking with a golden spear crowned with a golden eight-pointed cross, a golden winged serpent (four-legged dragon) with green wings. The coat of arms is crowned with a golden imperial crown and complemented by the ribbons of three Orders of Lenin." |
