![]() | Astrakhan (old blazon). Adopted on December 8, 1856. Description: "In azure shield - a gold, like royal, crown with five arches and green lining; under it - a silver eastern sword with golden handle, sharp end to the right". |
Astrakhan (new blazon). Adopted on June 24, 1993.
For the first time the Astrakhan emblem - "a wolf in a crown" - appeared on a state seal of Ivan IV in 70-th of 16th century. The legend around the picture: "A Seal of Ostrokhan Kingdom". But simultaneously other variant of the Astrakhan arms is also known: a crown and under it a sabre. A print of the voevode seal with such picture is also referred by historians to the 16th century. This variant of an emblem has received the further development and was used with drawing up of the Astrakhan province arms. |
