Coat of arms of the Republic of Mordovia was adopted on March 30, 1995, re-adopted on November 19, 2002. Its description: "The coat of arms of the Republic of Mordovia is a heraldic shield in madder red (dark red), white, and dark blue with the coat of arms of Saransk in the center, framed by: golden ears of wheat, symbolizing the traditional commitment of the Mordovian people to agricultural work, entwined with a maroon, white, and dark blue ribbon; a gold-colored necklace (a national ornament) with seven ornaments representing the number of cities in the republic, ending with a solar sign, an eight-pointed rosette, a symbol of the sun, in red."

The coat of arms was designed by Nikolai Dmitrievich Chikrinyov, a teacher of fine arts at Mordovia State Pedagogical University.
