Coat of arms of Oryol Oblast was adopted on July 3, 2012. Its description: "The coat of arms of Oryol Oblast is a shield with a silver fortress (in the form of three towers connected by walls; the middle tower is taller and has an open gate in the color of the field), crowned with a golden double-headed eagle under three golden imperial crowns, the middle one of which has azure ribbons; the tip is encumbered with a silver open book between two diverging golden sheaves of wheat. The coat of arms is crowned with a golden land crown with seven visible leaf-shaped points and surrounded by the ribbon of the Order of Lenin."

The law established three equally acceptable versions of the coat of arms of Oryol Oblast:

  1. full coat of arms – the coat of arms of Oryol Oblast, including a golden crown and the ribbon of the Order of Lenin in its composition;
  2. crowned coat of arms – the coat of arms of Oryol Oblast without the ribbon of the Order of Lenin;
  3. coat of arms – the coat of arms of Oryol Oblast without the golden crown and the ribbon of the Order of Lenin.

Old coat of arms of Oryol Oblast was adopted on August 1, 2002. Its description: "The coat of arms of Oryol Oblast is a heraldic shield with a silver fortress (in the form of three towers connected by walls; the middle tower is taller and has an open gate in the color of the field) on a blue background, crowned with a golden double-headed eagle under three Russian crowns, the middle one of which has blue ribbons: the green tip of the shield is encumbered with a silver open book between two diverging bunches of golden ears of corn. The ratio of the width to the height of the shield is 8:9."
